    Circuit Silverstone

The Silverstone circuit has a special history. It originally began as an airfield for British bombers during World War II. The Royal Air Force Was operationally active here between 1943 and 1946. The airfield’s three runways, in classic WWII triangular formation, lie within the contours of the current track.

The first British Grand Prix took place at the Silverstone circuit in 1950. This was also the first race of the very first Formula One World Championship. Although the layout of the circuit has been modified several times since then, it remains an iconic track. With a length of 5.891 kilometers and 18 corners, it is not only a blazingly fast circuit, but also a very challenging one with technical sections.

Max Verstappen is a fan of the circuit:
“Silverstone is a great track, it is of course a very historic track but also great fun. It has a lot of fast corners, Becketts and Maggots being my favourite, and there are always loads of fans out in force.”

The drivers first pass through the Hamilton Straight and then through the Abbey turn before accelerating full throttle towards Arena, a section formed by a combination of turns that leads to Brooklands. After Brooklands, the riders take a hairpin bend before arriving at the fast Copse corner.

After this fast section of the track, the cars race through the most iconic part of the circuit: Maggots and Becketts. This section, introduced in 1991, is taken at speeds between 235 and 310 kph. It is a challenging series of fast turns that requires a tremendous amount of concentration from the drivers. From Chapel to Stowe is a straight in which the drivers can run their cars at full speed.
From Stowe they turn right, then straight on to Vale, before turning right almost immediately and ending at Club, or the start/finish line.
